Blighted Pregnancy

Our friends were married last December 23, we were happy for them at last they found each other arms.  They plan to have a baby as early as possible. Last February, we receive a text from them and told us that they have a baby because she missed a period for one month and experience a nausea, fatigue and sore breasts which are sign of pregnancy.

But after an ultrasound was made, they found out that she suffered blighted ovum or often called an anembryonic pregnancy, a common type of miscarriage.  Blighted ovum is happened when a fertilized egg implants in the uterus but the resulting embryo fails to form very early or doesn’t form at all. It is also called “early pregnancy failure” to illustrate this situation. Some also called it empty gestational sac.

With blighted ovum, the woman will get a positive result on a pregnancy test because the placenta begins to develop a gestational sac.  She may also have some of the symptoms common in a normal pregnancy. Later on, the hormone levels begin to go down and these symptoms will drop.  She might also notice some reddish-brown staining or have no spotting at all but later, she might have cramps or bleeding as hormone levels recede.

An appointment with your physician such as an obstetrician/gynecologist should be done as soon as you suspect you’re pregnant. This will ensure your health and your baby.

Hey… For some reason strange things are hapenning with your site layout. The borders of the text are overlapping. I didn’t do this Monday. I don’t know if it’s my end or if you’ve made a change… Just thought you might want to look at it. Thanks! Jenette Pluym
