- Reduce white sugar intake. The US National Research Council reports that refined sugars and sweeteners account for up to 20% of many people’s daily calories. Studies also shown that eating processed sugar increases blood pressure.
- Have regular exercise. Brisk 30 minutes walk for 6 days a week.
- Add the amount of fiber in your diet. Eat more fruits and vegetables that contain fiber such as whole grains.
- Eat more bananas. Bananas is known to have high potassium contains which helps to regulates blood pressure. Other fruits that have calcium are peanuts, almonds, avocados, raisin, carrot juice, cantaloupe, figs and dried apricots.
- Get enough sleep. Person deprived from sleep especially during the night increases blood pressure.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables and low fat dairy products.
- Moderate drinking. Limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol excess can increase the risk of high blood pressure.
- Quit smoking. Smoking brings various disease including heart disease, stroke, etc.
- Discuss the use of oral contraceptive with your doctor. Some oral contraceptive contributes high blood pressure.
- Reduce weight if you are overweight. Many people who are overweight is often have a high blood pressure so the doctor recommend to lose weight.
