Live a healthy Lifestyle: Steps to Quit Smoking

One way to live a healthy lifestyle is to quit smoking. If you love yourself, your kids and family, it’s time to quit smoking. As we all know, cigarette contains chemicals and poison that can cause death and illnesses such as cancer, heart attacks, and stroke.

Steps to Quick Smoking

  • Decide to quit smoking. Keep in mind that you really want to quit smoking.
  • Acknowledge to yourself that it is not really easy to quit smoking especially if you are already addicted to nicotine from cigarette. It’s really need determination.
  • Get support from the people you love. Let them know that you decided to quit smoking.  Your loved-one make a way to quit smoking by keeping the astray out of sight, stop you from buying cigarette and give you a hug if you feel like smoking.
  • Acquire support from work. Let your officemate know your decision. Tell them how difficult it is and you don’t want them to go through the same bad experience.
  • Get resources.  Check resources from internet, books or magazine on how to stop smoking.
  • Seek professional help.  Let your doctor or health care provider about your decision to quit smoking.  If you have health problems such as heart disease, lung cancer or high blood pressure, let your doctor give advice to handle the situation. Also, you can discuss to your doctor on nicotine replacement therapy.
  • Let your hands and mouth busy.  One way to break the habit is keep your mouth and hands busy. You can sip your favorite juice, snack a vegetable salad, have a gum or candy in your mouth. Also, engage hand activity like painting, embroidery, playing musical instruments, etc.
  • Get some form of exercise. You can join to city marathon, badminton tournament, and extra weights at the gym, climb to mountain, dance and walk with kids.
  • Spend time in smoke-free areas. Idle time is often a problem to smokers. Hang out in places that don’t allow smoking such as coffee shop, museums, theater, and non smoking lounges.
  • Be calm and patient. You can achieve this through meditation and prayer. Watch out for those high-stress periods such as deadlines, illness, death in the family, fight with loved one and financial difficulty.
  • Know the reason why you decide quit smoking. Write down the reasons on note cards and post them.
